A Bit About Me

Hello Everyone!

I’m Bethany and on May 8th I’ll be beginning my attempt to thru-hike the Pacific Crest Trail. I’ll be flying down to San Diego before catching the shuttle to the Mexican border, where I’ll then do my best to walk back to my home of British Columbia, Canada.

I first heard about the PCT over a decade ago and was immediately fascinated by the idea of hiking the whole thing. However, throughout the years there were always reasons why I couldn’t commit to taking 5 months off my life to go for a hike- jobs, school, partners, and all the other commitments that life has. However, this summer I found myself without any of those commitments and all of a sudden the idea of hiking the trail started to look a whole lot more possible. I decided to apply for the permit, and managed to get one of the last ones available.

I’ve always been involved in the outdoors, starting with camping and canoeing when I was a kid and teenager and then getting into hiking and scrambling when moved to the mountains almost 10 years ago. Two years ago I decided to turn my hobby into a career and entered a 2 year diploma program for Adventure Tourism, as well as beginning the process to become a certified hiking guide.

With less than two weeks until I fly to San Diego to begin this journey I’m filled with both excitement and anxiety over the idea of walking over 2,000 miles in the next few months. I can’t wait to meet all the people with a goal similar to mine, see landscapes that’ll be totally foreign to me, and to begin an experience that’ll change me in ways I don’t even know about yet!
