20-Day Countdown
Date is Set – April 12
We have decided to head out on 4/9/22 for our trip south to jump on the trail. It will be trains and buses from MA to TN where we have a shuttle arranged for drop off on 4/12/22 at NC/TN border. First leg of the journey will be about a 75 mile stretch to Damascus VA. We decided to take the journey in short sections and reassess frequently. From Damascus, we hope to set another 5-7 day goal and so-on. Not committing to a full thru-hike at this point. Gotta see how the old bones and joints hold up.
Tent Shake Down
Too cold to stay overnight in the mountains of MA this month, so we’ve been settling for day hikes with full packs. Need to test the new tent, though, before the real thing, so we set her up in the yard and slept overnight in the rain last night. Yes, cold, but nice and dry inside.
There’s Max setting up the new Big Agnes. Loads of room and easy to set up. Maureen got to take it down in the rain today, but it came down quick and easy.
