A Trail Life

Hello, hikers!  We trust everyone’s coping with their Springer Fever and anxiously counting down the days to hiking season.  No?  Just us?

While everyone’s making their gear lists and checking them twice 100 times, we wanted to stop in and introduce ourselves.  We are Serial, Minutes and Rooney and we blog over at A Trail Life, but Zach has been kind enough to let us chat with you guys from time-to-time and stay connected to the AT thru-hikers.

Who We Are

Serial

A Detroit native, Serial stepped foot on the Appalachian Trail (AT) for the first time in 2007.  6 months later he had completed his thru-hike and sparked his passion for hiking.  He hikes a section of the AT every year and he loves it more each time.  With over 6,200 miles under his belt, he’s a bit of a hiking beast.

Minutes

A Chicago girl at heart, Minutes climbed her first mountain in 2008 and has been seeking the peace of mountain living ever since.  Last summer she hiked a 1,400 mile section on the AT (with Serial and Rooney, of course!) and has logged over 600 miles of trail running throughout the years.

Rooney

An energetic Weimaraner who’s almost 3, Rooney keeps us on our toes.  Rooney has hiked more miles than most people and he grew up on the AT so he’s happiest when he’s outdoors.  But once the hike is over, he turns into a 75 lb. lapdog who loves a good cuddle.  And yes, he does have a trail name!  It’s “A/C” because he would stand in front of any air conditioner he could find and often boxed us out for the prime spot.

Us + AT = Love

We’ve been in a love affair with the AT for a few years now and there’s really nothing like it.  In 2009, we left our big-city life in the Midwest to live closer to the trail.  Damascus, VA is an amazing trail town and really struck a chord with Serial when he first hiked through in ’07 and then again in ’08.  So when a job opened up in town, managing Sundog Outfitter, he jumped at the chance and we all moved down there.

Living on the AT for three years changed our lives and made us appreciate the hiking community even more.  We watched each class of hikers come through town and we soaked up every bit of their enthusiasm.  It’s what ultimately led us to hike together last summer.

Hiking and trail running will always be a part of our lives.  Serial has a long list of trails that he wants to tackle.  Rooney would live on the trail permanently, if given a say.  And Minutes wants to move back to the mountains where she can trail run and wake up to the sounds of nature. We’re back in Chicago now, but we daydream about moving back to VA or NC regularly.

Our Blog Topics

Most of the bloggers on this site are documenting their thru-hike in real-time, so we are a bit different in that respect.  But we do plan on posting about topics that are relevant, and hopefully helpful, for anyone planning a thru-hike.   The first few topics that we plan to tackle are hiking with a dog, staying vegetarian on the trail (and other various dietary restrictions), hiking as a couple and how to support a long-distance hiker from home.  If you have any other suggestions, we’d love to hear them.

We’re also going to be bringing you guys giveaways and product reviews.  We are lucky to have wonderful sponsors that we’ve partnered with (and a few more in the works!) and we’d love to share it all with you.  It’s our way of providing trail magic from a distance (mail magic?) – something we loved doing when we lived on the trail.  So stay tuned for more details.

Until then, we hope you’re all enjoying the planning process and getting excited for your upcoming hike.  We’re looking forward to following along and have subscribed to so many trail journals and blogs from this year’s class.  You can always find us at A Trail Life, so come on over and say hello anytime.

Although Yahoo isn’t the biggest, or the highest ranking search engine on the internet,
it is still one of the most essential, and if you want use search engine optimization and promotion as a main technique in your marketing arsenal,
you unquestionably need to get listed here. The Internet
has changed the way we attain information forever and Google
has been the main driving force and proponent behind this instant access to information. Unlike TV,
radio and other traditional marketing channels that need big
budgets to be effective, SEO can be cost effective. There are two techniques
that combine to form a complete SEO.

Thirdly, the search engines need legit companies
to do site optimization. Depending on how how much time you have you can do this about once per week.
This mode of advertisement was faster than the earlier ones and reached more people but it had its own limitations.
