A Video Montage of My 2016 Appalachian Trail Thru-Hike

The following is a guest post courtesy of Mitch “DUTCH” Lenington.  Have a story to tell?  Share it here.

The Appalachian Trail. Three words with five million steps. As I watch these short clips flash by, I have to force myself to see what really lies behind the screen. These memories, these experiences are all real. Every day I remind myself what really happened, that I really made it, that everything I see actually happened. I speak for many of the friends that I made out there when I say that looking back on an adventure such as the Appalachian Trail is hard to comprehend. The memories and bonds we made will forever be embedded in our minds.

This video serves as piece of evidence for when the day comes that I wake up and have a harder time convincing myself that I walked over two thousand miles chasing a high that most will never understand, and that it wasn’t all some incredible dream, I will always be reminded of the wonderful truth that I hiked the entire Appalachian Trail. I walked through fourteen different states from Georgia to Maine on a journey that changed my life. Through thick and thin and throughout the very literal ups and downs, I can say that I would do it all again without hesitation; and I hope that one day the chance will present itself again to walk between the white blazes.

Excellent as usual. I followed Mitch “Dutch” along on his AT thru-hike this past spring and summer, 2016, and cheered him on, so I’ve seen the hours of videos that he made and posted on YouTube. This is an excellent wrap-up of his journey. My only wish was that it was longer and showed more of the views that he experienced and the final steps up Katahdin. Congratulations, again, Dutch and to your hiking partner and companion for most of the journey, “Clean Skittles” (Jacob Downing).

Very nice. I miss it so. Nice to see “Big O” in one scene of your video. Haven’t seen him since somewhere in the 100 miles.
