A List of Appalachian Trail Shuttles Available to Help Hikers Get off the Trail

In light of the continuing COVID-19 crisis, we’ve compiled a list of shuttle drivers and services that are still available to assist Appalachian Trail hikers as they leave the trail.

The ATC has put out a series of statements with requests for hikers to postpone their thru-hikes, leave the trail if they’re already on it, and to not use the Appalachian Trail at all—even for day hikes. Different national parks and forests and regional jurisdictions have also closed sections of trail, campsites, shelters, and privies.

The ATC sent out a notice on Tuesday, March 17, asking 2020 Appalachian Trail thru-hikers to postpone their section hikes and thru-hikes due to the spread of COVID-19. Hikers on the trail have been asked to leave.

The habits of thru-hikers—including congregating at shelters, around picnic tables, shuttling in vans, or staying in hostels—goes against the “social distancing” measures recommended by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The ATC states that they “do not make this request lightly,” and they are aware of the time and investment that goes into a thru-hike.

Are you a shuttle driver willing to help AT hikers leave the trail? Input your information here and we’ll add you to the list.

Charlie Galante, who advertises shuttles in around the Vermont area is not reliable. Do not depend on him in planning your trip.
