Arriving in the Last Trail Town (Day 155)
It was exactly 18 miles of hiking to Route 15, the road into Monson, ME. The terrain was also the smoothest and flattest that we’ve seen in weeks. This section of trail contained only about 2000 feet of ascent and descent, making it a relaxing day.
Shaw’s Hiker Hostel
I didn’t leave camp particularly early, but I still made it to the trailhead by 3 PM. It wasn’t long before the shuttle from Shaw’s Hiker Hostel picked me and a few other hikers up, driving us into Monson, ME. This is the last town that we will pass through on the trail, meaning it’s the last resupply and hostel stay as well. I have trouble believing that we finally made it here. We’re really at the end now.
Preparing for the 100-Mile Wilderness
I spent the evening showering, doing laundry, and beginning to prepare for the 100-Mile Wilderness. There won’t be any resupply options for the next week, and cell service will be limited. This means I had to buy enough food to last until I arrive at Baxter State Park, and I also need to plan my exit from the trail after summiting Mount Katahdin. Luckily, I am taking my last zero day tomorrow, so I will have additional time to get organized.
I bought some food for dinner at the Monson General Store and talked on the phone for a while before calling it a night. The bunkroom is comfortable and a bit eclectic. Outside, I can see that some of the leaves are beginning to turn orange for autumn. How did summer come and go so quickly?

Great job almost there. I’ve been enjoying your blog Cheers!
Very exciting to be so close to the end of your journey, but I’d imagine it’s a little bittersweet too. I hope your trek through the 100-Mile Wilderness goes smoothly and is an enjoyable capstone to your thru-hike.
