AT Closed in Northern New Hampshire Due to Brush Fire

A 2.6-mile stretch of the Appalachian Trail in northern New Hampshire is closed due to a brush fire in New Hampshire’s White Mountain National Forest.

The roughly 45-acre Centennial Fire started on Monday and burned across parts of the Appalachian Trail this week. It is now fully contained, according to the USDA Forest Service, but the trail closure will remain in effect until further notice to provide for public safety.

The Appalachian Trail is closed between the boundary of the Lead Mine State Forest and the junction with the Centennial Trail (northbound mile 1897, according to FarOut).

“As of 12:34 today, the Centennial Fire is 100% contained and ‘controlled,'” the Forest Service wrote in a Facebook post. “It is currently in patrol status and we will continue to monitor the fire with our NH State partners. There is still rehab and hazard mitigation along the AT Corridor to be completed. The AT will remain closed until further notice.”
