‘Bout Time for Another

Hi everyone!

My name is Kim, trail name (Rice) Krispies, and I am so excited to be one of your bloggers for the 2017 hiking season! The short and sweet version of my hike is: a northbound of the Appalachian Trail beginning early May 2017, exact date TBD.

A little background

In 2012, I did a large section of the Pacific Crest Trail (Washington, Oregon, and Northern California), which I intended to be a thru but I got sick and had to get off. I somehow got C. diff — cue the collective gasp of all healthcare professionals, and for those of you who don’t know what it is, it’s like giardia, except on steroids with ‘roid rage. Probably best not to investigate much more, ignorance is bliss on this one. Anyway, I ended up losing more weight than I really had to lose and caught a flight home.

The trail kept calling me back — how could it not with views like this?!?

… so in 2014 I returned to do a northbound hike of the PCT, which you’ll get a bit more about in the next post.

Since my brother did the AT in 2009, that trail was always in the back of my mind, but then the Appalachian Trail started to push its way to the front of my mind until planning a thru hike wasn’t so much a conscious decision, but more of an inevitable progression of events. I just had to embrace it, and embrace I have! Researching, gear accumulation, panicking and training have commenced.
