Can’t see the Forest for the trees?

Jones Falls Tennessee

1st off, a trail update.  We’re at Mountain Harbor B&B between Roan Mtn., Tennessee & Elk Park, N.C.  They overbooked the hostel, so upgraded us to the B & B….poor us;). We’ve done 413 miles and have 393 left to Springer Mtn.   This place is supposed to have an absolutely KILLER breakfast (also AYCE)

We’re hoping to be done with the SOBO part of our journey in about 4 weeks.  Our cumulative mileage is now up to 12.5 miles per day.  After 3 weeks, it was 11.2.  Getting your “trail legs” is a beautiful thing.  Our last 4 days of hiking were 18.7, 16.1, 16.0 and 19.0.  We had a short hike in today (6.9), but plan to hike into Erwin, Tennessee on Sunday with 3 days hiking, including 16.3, 17.6 and 17.  Coming out of Irwin, we’ll do a 7 miler to “rest” our legs.

Hiking the AT, some of the best views are water views…..lakes, streams, rivers, creeks…..but especially WATERFALLS….and we’ve been gifted with several!  For hikers who fail to take the time to notice, it’s like not seeing the Forrest for the trees!

Here are just a few of our latest favorites!

Today’s Hike is History, Tomorrow’s Hike a Mystery.  Right now is a Gift, which is why it’s called the Present!

This is the mileage post I was looking for. I have a map going with everyone’s progress. Just keeping myself busy until I start my thru next year (hopefully).

      Coach IRV,

We’re at Low Gap, 322.1 on last year’s book. We’re coming out for a Nero tomorrow @ Sam’s Gap and will be jumping right back in Thursday (calling for rain Thurs/Fri). Hope to be in Hot Springs Saturday. Smokies are now in our radar and Thursday we should cross the 500 mile barrier! Right now we’re more than 20% done with the trail;)
