Celebrating and getting ready
July 4, 2017
Zeroing, but counting the days to Maine.
After getting back to Missouri, the home needed to go in for maintenance. It seems my generator stopped working. So I had to make a last minute appointment in Springfield Missouri. I was glad Cummins-Onan could get me in for a fix. However, the cost wasn’t cheap!
In fact, I was quoted $650 “just to pull it” from the RV…and that is before they figure out what is wrong.
However, I was happily surprised when Onan approved the repairs under warranty. My cost — Nada, Zilch, Zero, Nothing. With a final bill of over $1500…I was Happy Happy Happy!
Thank You Onan…
The first event to celebrate the holiday was to head over to Lucas Motor Speedway for some races. Since Casey’s Convience Store was sponsoring the night, we scored some free tickets from mySherry.
Then it was go-carting with the Littles like we always do when at Lucas.
This weekend, we attended a family reunion. It’s been a few years since we’ve attended a Brown-Erwin Family Reunion in Wentworth Missouri.
The fun at the reunion was a scavenger hunt and cornhole toss along with seeing Donna and Monna.
It’s nice catching up with the family after so many years.
It was ALSO nice being home for America’s birthday. I really enjoyed time with the immediate family. We celebrated on the 2nd and most of the family was there.
That means food, watermelon, swimming and fireworks. And this kid loves it ALL!
Today, we attended a little community July 4th parade today, but the weather didn’t cooperate…it was wet! However, that didn’t curb the grandkid’s enthusiasm of being in her 1st parade.
To help keep her drier, I pulled out my trusty SnowPeak 4.5oz umbrella. It did the job!
Now, it’s time to finish getting ready for my flight on Sunday. I’ll be packing up my gear for the flight. Since some of the gear can’t be in my carry-on, I’ll have to check a bag. Since I don’t really need “another bag”, I’m heading over to the local thirft store and buying a $3 bag that I’ll discard once I get to Maine.
I have to pack my trekking poles, pocket knife and tent stakes in my checked bag. It seems TSA doesn’t like sharp items in the cabin…and I’m okay with that.
So tomorrow, I’ll be gathering my gear together and making some last minute adjustments.
Also, I need to wrap up an old project. I’ve been working on a hollow wood surfboard a few years. I had run into a little challenge on the rails until I ran into an old friend in Damascus before heading off trail to recuperate. So, I’m working on this until I leave for Maine. I’d like to “get wet” when I get done hiking.
It’s still a little angry. I may need to get a re-check before Sunday’s departure. I still have some swelling and I’m not sure I’m 100% well. Maybe another round of anti-biotics may be needed. However, let’s see what the doctor has to say.
You may not notice the swelling with these chicken legs, but it’s there. Left leg above the ankle.
