Countdown Day 0…Time Flies

In 4 hours, I will be winding my way through airport security. In 14 hours, I will be in South Carolina. In 86 hours, I will nearly be to Springer. Where did the time go?

A year ago, this trip seemed like a pipe dream. Six months ago, I couldn’t wait to get started. One month ago, I would rather have been anywhere but home. Now, I am a little apprehensive and sad to be leaving my familiar life. I just keep reminding myself that no growth and no change happens inside of one’s comfort zone.

In the past few weeks, I quit my job. As an occupational therapist in a hospital, I was always busy and always learning new things. This was my first ‘big girl’ job; if not for this job, I don’t think the AT would be attainable for us. It is pretty liberating to be able to walk away from a job in order to pursue some big dreams.

Empty desk on my last day!

Being unemployed allowed me to spend some quality time with my best friends in Oregon. We tore up the powder on snowmobiles and talked about how quickly the AT adventure will go. I spent  plenty of time lounging on the couch by the fire with a cup of hot cocoa. I reminded myself every day how much I appreciate indoor plumbing.

Gorgeous view, gorgeous ladies!

Last night, I said my farewells to my parents. They have been such wonderful cheerleaders in my life; no goal of mine was ever unattainable in their eyes. Philip and I stayed with his parents for our last night, and they will take us to the airport shortly. We indulged in cheesy potatoes (yay carbs) and went to bed early.

We let Louise snuggle in the bed last night, which rarely happens. Crazy as this may sound, saying goodbye to the pup is the hardest thing I will have to do. She is such an exuberant and loving part of my life. I wish she could come with, but it just isn’t feasible. She will be happy with my parents and in-laws…I can’t wait to see her face when we come back.

Now, I am going to enjoy a cup of coffee and round up the last of my gear. I will check a recheck and few things just because of nervous energy. Then, I will get on and plane. After that point, all of my plans will be in motion and and I will just be along for the ride!

Heather and Philip, we wish nothing but good weather and happiness on your trip. Now i have a tendency to look at life through rosy glasses, however, that is our wish for you both. The four puppy grandparents will take good care of the “critters” so go and have the time of your lives. This is just the beginning.
