Day 1 The challenge begins
Most tiers start with day zero I’ve decided to start with day one so that the day actually reflects the number of days I’ve hiked at the time of the post
I started my hike near the Deer Head Inn in Delaware Water Gap Pennsylvania. It’s only a little over a mile to the first look off.
Looking straight down the Delaware from a couple hundred feet high.
A mile later is the summit of mountMount Minsi, and you have a beautiful view down the Delaware river looking south.
As you can see it snowed a couple of inches on the mountain the night before I left. The sky is foreboding.
About a mile after Mount Minsi, my wonderful wife, Kim joined me and hiked with me for about a mile to Totts Gap.
After Totts Gap, there were several beautiful views, such as the one below.
The big challenge of the day came with Wolff rocks. The rocks were partially snow, covered and pretty slippery.
After Wolff rocks, which were about 8 1/2 miles into my hike, I soldiered on. It rained off and on throughout the day finally turning into a steady rain just as I needed to set up my tent. I set up my tent in the 40 degree rain and it stopped raining right after I got it set up. At least I got to eat without rain. My first night was spent at a small unofficial tent site about a mile and a half south of Windgap. The temperature was colder than I expected, and it was not overall an enjoyable night but at least my equipment kept me warm enough in the subfreezing temperatures.
