Day Before the Appalachian Trail 2019 with Artemis
The pack is loaded and hulks in the living room like a toad waiting to pounce on me. I unpacked and repacked at least ten times in the last week. The nerves are real because even though I have a tremendous amount of people rooting me on, I have a collection of haters willing me to fail all because I am overweight, and do not carry an ultralight pack. The unnatural hatred is my rocket fuel for my inevitable success.
I made sure the house was spotless, last-minute bills are taken care of, house stocked with foods, and the car has a fresh oil change. My last day home is going to be spent with my kids and husband as we indulge in really good food, board games, and hopefully an an early night to bed.
The last time I felt the weight of this enormous change to my life was when I was told I was pregnant with my first child. My eyes are bright as I look forward to the pain, sorrows, joy, and challenges in the next six months. I am ready to walk home but not ready to leave home. Day before the Appalachian Trail 2019
