DIY Pocket Rocket Windscreen

We discovered we needed something other than a circular wrap after learning they weren’t safe for canister stoves as the canister becomes hot and could potentially explode, oooops we had been using a wrap previously. This a quick and easy wind screen is very cheap (free if you happen to have the bits lying a round the garage) and very lightweight.
What You Will Need

Aluminium dryer duct venting

Wire (I stripped a piece of old electrical wire)

Tin Snips

Pliers

Drill

Cut  the sheeting to fit your stove

Crimp the edges to get rid of sharp corners

Mark where holes will be drilled

Bend wire into hooks

Use the existing holes in the stove to attach the wire hooks

After two weeks on the trail this windscreen has worked perfectly.

Update:  This DIY windscreen worked perfectly for the whole of the AT and beyond, we use a big elastic to secure it around the gas canister while hiking and to help keep its shape.  We did have to replace the wires after the AT and we secured them to the stove this time to keep from loosing them.  (We did loose one hook somewhere).

Hope it helps, we like the set up, when not in use we wrap it around our fuel canister with an elastic band. Good luck with yours!

I’d like to try your design, but only one photo is showing up on the web page (the photo of drilling the holes). Don’t know if it’s my computer or what. Any way to get all the photos?
    Thanks for doing this.

This looks really cool. How far up the pot does it go? It looks like it only goes a little higher than the top of the feet/bottom of the pot, and most of the shield is below that. Is that right?
