Driving down to GA!

We left NH at 7 this morning and are driving down to Georgia today and tomorrow. Kevin and I will be on the trail Saturday! We are thinking about skipping the approach trail and going right to the Springer Mountain parking lot after we get our hiker tags since we will have the car. My plan is to start at around 8-10 mile days for the first couple, see how we are feeling, and work our way up. The last thing I want is to be injured or in a lot of pain (which will probably happen regardless) the first couple of weeks.

Yesterday I went through all my gear and took the iconic pre-thru-hike gear photo! I, like many thru hikers, put an immense amount of time and energy into my gear selection. I wanted lightweight items, and I succeeded with a base weight of 11.9lbs. My total pack weight with food and water should be around 25lbs. If I were to get a new lighter tent/backpack it would definitely put me at around 10, but I’m happy with what I have. I can always make adjustments on trail if things aren’t working well.

See you on the trail Saturday!

Bridget
