The first 2 weeks

Tough lessons

Caboose and I have met some amazing people and we’re making lifelong friends. It’s been amazing and we’re super blessed to be able to take part in this amazing adventure.

This experience has come with a price though. Both Caboose and I are nursing overuse injuries. Even though we are very active in our daily lives, it didn’t prepare our bodies for the abuse we are enduring.

Too many miles WILL cause injury!

We’ve seen a sea of injured hikers. Many hikers have been forced to quit, and many more are hobbling down the trail.

The common link among all these hikers is too many miles.

Challenges to come

Tomorrow we will be climbing out of the NOC, and the forecast is for 8″ of snow tomorrow night. The forecast calls for bitter cold over the next week. Given that Caboose is not known for her tolerance of the cold, it’s going to be a test.

But even with the adversity, it’s been amazing!

I’ve been following your posts. Thanks for the reminder to daily stretch (I start my journey soon) – I especially appreciate your visual of “a sea of injured hikers” and “hobbling down the trail” to hammer home the importance of ‘preparation’; I know my weakness, initially, will be muscle tightness, thus, injury.

Again, thanks. Hang in there and keep us posted – pun intended.
