First Resupply and Town Stay

Day 3

Woke up pretty early to try and get out of camp early, but did I NO!! I guy section hiking the trail had coffee at the place I was staying at. Which was the Dahlgren campground. They had bathrooms, showers, and outlets!!! ? I used all of those amenities. I have gotten into the routine to eat breakfast while I walk, or I will never leave camp at a reasonable time.

I passed the Washington Monument on this day, no not the one in DC lol. I say that because I literally thought that’s what I would see…. I also flip-flopped with Arya again, but he stopped at a shelter before me. Maybe I’ll run into him again. I’m terrified of heights and falling to my death. So there was this really big bridge. I didn’t think I was going to be able to make it across. I thought of every solution possible to not have to walk across this bridge. But after about 5 minutes of just sitting I just walked across. While I was walking across, I could think about was the bridge collapsing. Obviously it didn’t, because I’m still alive!! Ended up doing 14.1 miles to Ensign shelter.

Day 4

I did get out of camp around 8 today! Not too bad. Did 10 miles to go into town. I got at my pick up spot by 12:45 ish! I felt like I was on top of the world! The terrain was rocky! No one talks about Northern Maryland being rocky. We had an awesome thru hiker from last year pick Deep End and I up at pen mar park. He (Smooth class of 2022) took us to the Cobblestone Hotel. There was a Walmart and an Applebee’s all in walking distance from the hotel! It was pure bliss!!! I didn’t see one single dog today. Also did laundry, walked around town in my rain jacket and sleep shorts lol.

Applebees was sooo good! Like mouth watering deliciousness. FOOD!! I also ran into Jo Ann at the hotel! She is so nice! For my resupply, I got mostly junk. I will eventually try to eat better, but not right now maybe next resupply lol. (Lies I tell myself.)

Way to face your fear of high places, especially bridges, crossing freeways, with a heavy backpack, by yourself!!! Empowering moments come from facing our fears!!! I’m excited to be following your flip flop on the AT! I have decided to do the AT for my 70th birthday, and it is so fun, and inspiring to follow you young women doing this as solo travelers! Wahoo!! My AT won’t begin until 4/2024..You are my Knights in Shining Armor!
