First Two Weeks by the Numbers

We’ve been busy on the trail for just over a month now but have wanted to send out a update about our first two weeks post Katahdin. We thought it might be fun to share some stats about our first two weeks and then compare to our last two weeks (if/when) we make it to Springer Mountain. Already we are starting to see a shift in the time it takes us to get ready in the morning, and the amount of calories we consume in a day. I imagine toward the end of this trip we will be hiking much longer days and consuming more Snickers and sodas than I’ll care to admit to.

The Numbers:

-14 Days
-177.8 miles
-12.7 miles average a day
-1 Zero
-1 Nero
-2 nights in a Lean-tos
-3 nights in a hostel
-9 nights in a tent
-3 resupply boxes
-3 showers
-3 pairs of socks each
-2500 average calories a day
-15 pounds lost (JD)
-8 pounds gained (Angie)
-3 liters of water carried each day
-9:00am average start time
-1 time on the trail before 8:00am
-2 hours- the average time it takes to get ready in the morning
-15 mountains
-1 hitched ride
-1 lost spoon
-1 broken mattress
-4 blisters
-3 weirdos
-2 angry NOBOs
-2 milkshakes
-1 bag of Cheetos
-5 sodas
-1 Snickers bar shared every day
-Not a single morning without bugs buzzing in our ears

Just wondering-What was so weird about the weirdos and what were the NOBOS angry about? Thanks and continued good luck on your hike!!

Hi Michael, the weirdos ranged from folks with machetes to people in the 100 with no food. As for the NOBOs, you’ll have to ask them, but we’re assuming it is a lack of calories and a tight deadline to finish. Thanks for reading! – JD

Yeah, but what’s the length of the BEARD?? Inquiring minds want to know!

We think of you every single day and I pray every day that you’re safe, having the experience you dreamed of, and that you’re enjoying it! We love you tons!
