Fontana or bust
Day 29
Brown Folk Gap Shelter to Fontana Village 11.5 Miles. AT mile 164.6
Card of the day – 8 swords
This morning was less cold and we were out by 830. I had my best on trail nights sleep so far. Even thought I kept slipping down my pad, I was still in my tent for 12 hours!
I’ve got to admit I’m ready for a change of scenery. The trail has been tough the last few days, and the oak is getting monotonous.
Having said that it was a nice morning walk with some calf strainers to remind you your alive. I thought I was getting good at hills, but apparently not. The interesting thing though is that it only really hurts whilst I’m actually doing it and my recovery time is almost none.
We ate lunch at cable gap, which looks like a nice shelter to have stayed at.
Any way, after lunch the trail was kicking my arse and so hot. Having checked on FarOut we had to make Fontana by 4pm for a shuttle. 4 miles, 2 hours. We had to march down the hill to hit the shuttle and it almost killed me. We really need to do our research better.
We got to the marina and all just died. I can’t have died that much though because I was able to run down to the marina shop to buy beer whilst we were waiting for the shuttle, that was late after all.
It was 21 degrees. That is hot. How can it have snowed 2 days ago.
Fontana village is a bit like what I imagine a Buttlins to be. There is a pool that is currently empty, a base ball pitch, and a crazy golf and all the staff go around in golf buggies which you can also hire.
