Gatlinburg, we have arrived.

The weather perdictions were…CORRECT!  The rain started at 10pm last night.  Good thing we had a spot in the shelter so that we didn’t have to deal with wet gear.

It was up at 6am and on the trail by 7am.  A short hike to Newfound Gap and then hopefully catch a ride to Gatlinburg which is 15 miles east.

After quickly hoofing it (fastest pace, but it was a short hike) in the rain, we made it to tge road.  With rain and fog, we were wondering IF anyone would pickup some wet & stinky hikers.  We thumbed it for about 20 minutes when this family drove by, went to the next turn out and turned around, then came back to give us a ride.

We were willing to take any ride, so the back of a truck down a very curvy road with rain.  No worries, it was the best seat for the views.

A BIG Thank You to this family and I can only imagine what was going tgru these kids minds.

We then made a quick stop at the NOC to checkout shoes and resupply options.  Next stop was the hotel to get the room TeamHiker secured for us quickly followed by lunch at Five Guys.

After lunch our room was ready, so we changed and did out laundry.  I’m not sure why since the rest of the week calls for rain.

We then made our real resupply run and I purchased new shoes.  My Altra Lone Peak 2.5’s were ready to be retired (thrown in the trash) so I picked up the Altra Line Peak 3.0 model.  Now I’m ready for another 200-300 miles.  Best thing…they were on sale.

I plan on hanging with Joiner for as long as my feet, legs and back will tolerate. He has to be in Hot Springs on Thursday.  That means several consecutive 18 mile days.   I hope I’m up for it.

The next few days look like this right now.  However, a lot depends on when we catch a ride out of town.
– Monday – Pecks Corner (10.3)
– Tuesday – Davenport Gap Shelter (19.6)
– Wednesday – Roaring Fork Shelter (18.8)
– Thursday – Hot Springs (17.9)

– Monday – Tri-Corner Lnob Shelter (15.1)
– Tuesdsy – Davenport Gap Shelter (14.8)
– Wednesday – Roaring Fork Shelter (18.8)
– Thursday – Hot Springs (17.9)

Let’s see how this plays out.  If I get too tired, I’ll just add another day when Joiner hikes on.

It may be a late late start tomorrow.  I hope it all works out.

HOT SPRINGS, ready or not here we come!
