Hey There

Yes, another intro 🙂

My name is Kenna and I’m going on an adventure. I’m gonna start hiking the AT in 7 weeks. I. just. need. to. learn. to. breathe. So nervous. So excited.

So what all do you wanna know? What all should I say?

General BS

23 years old. Brown hair. Hazel eyes. Outdoorsy. Nerdy. I actually do enjoy pina coladas. I don’t like getting caught in the rain. I’d rather be warm and dry and by a fire. I have been camping since the age of 3 even though it was in cabins and not in tents. I did my first serious backpacking trip when I was 13. That’s where I found out about the Appalachian Trail and that my dad did all of Pennsylvania. That trip changed my life. So much so that here I am planning 5 and half months in the woods.

Pathfinder Enthusiast

Pathfinder is another version of Dungeons & Dragons. That’s right people still play these games and I’m part of those people. At the moment I’m playing 3 different campaigns and I’m the dungeon master for one of them. I’ll soon have to stop running the game because I’m overwhelmed with work and AT prep.

Tabletop Collector (42 and counting)

Settlers of Catan, Pandemic, Bohnanza and Stone Age are some of my favorite.  I had to stop buying all the games so I can buy gear for this trip, I also needed to save up. Working 4 jobs should help with the saving. I’ll probably have a deck of cards with me on the trail.

Crafter

I’m quite crafty. I learned how to make friendship bracelets at summer camp. I also learned how to crochet hats and other things. At a Renaissance Faire I learned how to weave and I have my own loom somewhere. When I learned I can save money on gear by making it I naturally was drawn to it. I made my own hammock, tarp and stove.

The plan after the trail? The plan is there is no plan. Stick to the plan.

Gave college the 4 year try and didn’t graduate. I studied German for a year then started to study Math and Computer Science. It wasn’t hard, I was just in a bad place and needed to leave. Depression, Anxiety, bad landlord and awful roommate. That was fun. Maybe I’ll go to a different school and finish the math degree or maybe Outdoor Recreational Management. Maybe. Again no plan and sticking to it.

I hope reading this wasn’t like a belt of watches. (waist of time)

I’m punny.

Are you going to hammock on the trail? I can’t wait to hear how it goes. I hope to hike the trail 5-10 years down the road and hope to hammock along the way.

Hey, it’s really nice to hear from a fellow hammock trekker, especially one with a story so similar to my own. I too love to play analog games and make my own whatevers haha. Don’t let all the NO people get you down. As red green says “remember, I’m pullin for ya. We’re all in this together.”

Hope to see you out there this march,

    John ‘Crookedfoot’ Winder.
