Hiking For a Charity: Global Grassroots

Who is Global Grassroots? (Donation Link Below)

Global Grassroots mission: “Our mission is to catalyze women and girls as leaders of Conscious Social Change in their communities. Conscious Social Change is the intersection of mindfulness, leadership, and social entrepreneurship whereby individuals initiate change consciously, compassionately, and ethically.”

Global Grassroots works in post-conflict East Africa in countries such as Rwanda and Uganda. They have established academies in both countries working with girls and women with differing backgrounds. Global Grassroots empowers widows, orphaned girls, genocide survivors, and many others. Lastly, they also work with men in these communities who are willing and hoping to help combat the issues that affect the girls and women in East Africa.

The Inspiration

A few months ago, I was making my list of reasons for wanting to take on this hike (thank you Zach Davis for this trick). But I was still searching for something bigger that wasn’t on my list. It wasn’t until I watched a YouTube video by Tara Treks that the idea clicked in my head. Tara and her husband thru-hiked in 2019 and hiked for a charity that they were passionate about. I fell in love with the idea of my hike serving a bigger purpose. I am ecstatic to complete this arduous physical and mental journey while raising awareness and money for an organization and cause I believe in so deeply.

Why Global Grassroots?

Choosing Global Grassroots was easy for me as their mission embodies my future career path. I love my work being a volunteer teacher at Literacy Partners and I have always been an advocate for girls and women’s equality and rights. The decision to fundraise for a cause that encompasses all of those qualities was a no brainer for me. Global Grassroots by coincidence is based in New Hampshire (my home state) and it just seemed too perfect of a fit!

Working with such a wonderful organization is an honor. I am grateful that I get the opportunity to do something much more meaningful with my hike. I hope that this resonates with many of you and you find inspiration in their work! Below is the information needed so you can donate and support Global Grassroots.
