How it all began

An Epiphany of sorts…so, I’m not an overly religious man…in fact, I tell family and friends that I’m home -churched.  It doesn’t mean I’m an atheist or agnostic, just that I believe what I believe and it’s personal, so no buggin about it.  Four years ago, sometime in the middle of winter, it came more like a whisper….not an apparition or vision….more like a thought…..”thru-hike the AT”.  Whatttttttttttttt?  Say again?  “Thru-hike the AT”.  Ok, I get it……..hike the Appalachian Trail.  Where did that come from?  Never been on it.  I only know about it in general terms at this point…..4 years ago.  So, what did I do?  I researched it, diving in headfirst.  The more I read, the more the epiphany started becoming a part of my mental fabric.  How to plan? What gear do you need?  How do you re-supply?, What do you wear?  What do you take?  How much weight do you carry?  That was 4 years ago.  The first gear check was during an over-nighter with my brother during my spring break (I’m in education, read the profile;).  Check out our 1st picture……and our first lesson on what NOT to do……hmmmmm, that’ll have to wait for post #2!
