The six mile climb from Davenport Gap up to Mt. Cammerer isn’t terribly interesting but the fire lookout is. Considering this structure was built in the late 1930’s precariously perched on this rock outcropping is pretty mind blowing. I am now a member of the Half Gallon Club! So there is a tradition amongst thru-hiker’s on the Appalachian Trail that once you pass the halfway mile marker that you stop in at the Pine Grove Furnace icecream store and eat a half gallon of icecream. I’m not sure when or who started this tradition but I followed along and it may have taken me an hour and a half but I did completed the challenge ? I do not recommend this unless you are burning upwards of 6000 calories a day like me! (PS. Finally out of Pennsylvania! This is The Delaware Water Gap on the border between New Jersey and PA, best view I’ve had in days, PA has been endless rocky green tunnels. Met some great people though, spent a day helping out on an organic farm and had an old lady tell us dirty jokes as we sat on the side walk in some little town.
