Day 29 – 7.3.16 – 393.1m Sweet Carolina, You were one of my first and we had some great times together – from the Smokies to Max Patch to Roan Highlands – but Tennessee and I have been seeing each other a lot lately. Imagine this: you twist your ankle two days into a five month trip and think everything will be alright. You continue to hike, and FIFTY MILES LATER, you say to yourself, maybe this needs to get checked out. Eventually, you make it to the ER in Greenville, ME and are told you have a beautifully broken ankle. Yes. Mom hiked 50 MILES with a 35 pound pack on a BROKEN ANKLE. If you need a model for badass, @torithetarheel is your girl. Frustration, anger, sadness, and many other emotions have taken over the past 36 hours. I’ll be slack packing through the rest of the 100 Mile Wilderness tomorrow and Friday while mom rests and hangs out with dad.
