apple podcasts backpacker radio

We are thrilled to introduce the first episode of our new Trail Correspondents series.  In a nutshell, a small group of thru-hikers from the Appalachian Trail, Pacific Crest Trail, and Continental Divide Trail will be submitting audio recordings during their hikes.  Episodes will be published every other week, if not more frequently.

This first episode introduces us to our Appalachian Trail hikers.  Find their photos, bios, and Instagram accounts below.

Lauren P. aka Fainting Goat

Bio:  I’m Lauren, known on trail as Fainting Goat.  I’m from Austin, Texas, and while I love my hometown, it has a serious mountain deficiency.  I’ve been making up for it by hiking the Pacific Crest Trail and Continental Divide Trail in the last few years, and will be heading out to the Appalachian Trail in 2018.

Jeff / IBTAT

Bio: Jeff has bounced around a lot in his life, from the Midwest, Southwest, the Bob Marshall Wilderness, and Asheville, N.C. He spent the better part of his life battling alcoholism and depression, until four years ago when he decided to go cold turkey and save himself. He took a hike in Montana after getting past withdrawals, and found backpacking gave him purpose to remain sober. He has no doubt that hiking is the reason he’s alive today. Follow on Instagram

Kate “Sassafras” Mueller

Bio: Hi everyone, I’m Sassafras. I grew up in the rural Midwest, spent some time in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, and have hopped around the Mid-Atlantic and New England the last few years before settling in Maine. I’m a hiker, writer, and triathlete in my mid-30s, and I do a lot of whooping at races and on the trail. I’ll be taking a break from software product management to hike the AT NOBO starting in March 2018 and doing my best to make #hikerswithsass a compliment.
