It’s Official…

Greetings, Appalachian Trials readers! My name is Alex Mohrman, and I am going to be thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail with my boyfriend, Harrison. We will be starting in May 2016, as soon as I graduate. I am currently a Senior at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. I’m majoring in Environmental Science with a minor in Biology. Harrison is a Marketing major in his Junior year, he will be taking the Fall semester off to do this.

So…why am I trading coastal paradise for walking countless miles over mountains in unpredictable weather day after day from Georgia to Maine? My reasons are constantly changing, although I think complete insanity currently tops that list. That, and the fact that wanderlust runs in the family (My family is currently living on a sailboat in the Caribbean for a year – now you see where I get it from). I have been playing around with the idea of hiking the AT for awhile now, although I was never completely serious about it. But with the encouragement from some of my crew members/leaders in the North Carolina Youth Conservation Corps (NCYCC is AMAZING – check them out here), and my wonderful hiking partner, Harrison, I have decided to stop overthinking it and just to do it!

I am so excited for this adventure, and I am looking forward to sharing all of my excitement/nervousness/craziness here with all of you here!
