Let Us Make Some Camp Food + Food Worries
The one thing I worry about in preparation for this massive hike is the food. I anticipate being a bottomless pit of hunger, and won’t mind carrying the extra weight a few extra meals.
Wandering aimlessly through Ingles (Southern Grocery Chain for all you yanks out there), I came across the little Mac and Cheese cups that can be made in their container. I thought, what am I a TODDLER? A man needs meat when walkin’. Since “all the steak and eggs you have” are out of the question, some prepackaged, potable sport meat is back on the menu. Tuna made in the sunflower oil is a killer calorie booster, and most certainly a feral cat magnet. But that might be a good thing. It could put cat on the menu…
Trying to make as many meals as possible in the container they come in is a goal of mine.
My gear load out may change to add a pot, but as I get acclimated to the trail, having easily prepared food will be a big comfort. I have to come to terms with how much I am going to waste in Zip-Lock Bags. I always knew that I “had a future in plastics.” These little pieces of plastic magic might save my life.
Here is a short video of a simple test prep meal that only needs hot water.
