Living a Travel Life

After living in parks and campgrounds for 3 years, sometimes you just want to hang out in a normal house.

House sitting…it’s something everyone can do and it might even help with those vacation plans you have coming up.  Do you know of someone, somewhere that you’d like to house sit for?  If so, let them know you’re available…you might find yourself hanging out in some Adventurous Spot for FREE!

As a FULL TIME traveler, we find ourselves in some great places.  Who wouldn’t want to be traveling across America visiting National Parks and Forests?  It’s awesome to visit places you’ve read about in school or have added to your bucket list.  With over 50 National Parks and 154 National Forests (protected lands), you an easily find a place to “get away from it all”.

Mist in the trees…love waking up to this!

Alpine meadows…beautiful

However, traveling does take it’s toll on us.  I mean…travel, travel, travel, it doesn’t get old, but sometimes I’d like to stay put for a little while.  So what is one to do when you don’t “have a house” to go back to and decompress after your travels?

With a schedule that is very flexible, we have received “requests” to house sit at times.  Along with the house sitting duties are normal other duties like watering plants, mowing the grass and taking care of the pets.  While we haven’t been able to accept the house sitting gig every time, we have accepted several offers.

This week we find ourselves house sitting for family while they are at the State Fair.  This house sitting opportunity has it’s perks…  We are in a very LARGE house sitting on some land.  That means we are secluded from everyone and are enjoying our time in the quiet countryside.  Additionally, having full run of a pool out the back door makes this house sitting gig MoBetter.

Poolside…nice and refreshing

Our only “duties” this week are: 1) feed the dogs, 2) clean the pool and 3) RELAX!

So this week, I’m the cabana boy for the darling wife.  I’ll bring her the lemonade while she lounges poolside.  I’ll make sure the pH and chlorine is just right!  Then it’s time to relax with a dip in the pool for myself.

BTW:  Don’t come over unannounced, you might find us skinny dipping 🙂

So…if you find yourself with some time and some friends who live in a great place.  Think about offering up your services as a House Sitter!  It’s great for a relaxing low cost vaca while I prepare for my AT Thru Hike.
