No Turning Back
My boss just came in and asked me if I was really leaving!!! They are posting a help wanted ad tomorrow and looking for a replacement! Oh my goodness this is REALLY HAPPENING! Over the past four years I have not seriously doubted that I am going to do this, but walking away from a decent paying job with good benefits???? Maybe I am a little crazy…
After my initial (mild) panic, I reminded myself that I am prepared for this. Financially, physically, and mentally. I am on my husbands insurance and have a separate savings account that I have been squirreling money away in over the past 4 years for this hike. My gear is purchased and paid for. I have been working out and am signed up for a self defense class in February. I am stepping out of my comfort zone personally and my confidence is already increasing.
I still need to improve my physical health, but that will happen on the trail, one day at a time.
The planning is almost over and the doing is about to start.
I think I am ready…

Good for you! Don’t turn back even when nature, and your own body is telling you to…
I waited to long.It had always been my dream to thru hike the AT.My health won’t allow that now.
I can still encourage those who attempt it though..!
You go girl! I am 53 and will start section hiking this year on May 13th. I will be hiking my first 109.8 miles going NOBO. I am single mom with kid in college and can’t attempt a through hike till she graduates. Hike your own hike and never quit on a bad day! Good luck.
Thanks Tonga 🙂
Don’t take the self defense class.
Rusty, I’m curious about why you say that….
