[UPDATED] Missing AT Hiker Found Safe According to PA State Police

Updated 5:30 AM ET 5/31/2021: Pennsylvania State Police said that John Dunnam, a hiker who had been reported missing on the AT in the Chimney Rocks area, has been found safe.

Pennsylvania State Police are searching for a hiker who has gone missing from the Appalachian Trail in Cumberland County. Fifty-seven-year-old John Dunnam was last seen hiking the AT on May 25 around Chimney Rocks (northbound mile 1076.5 according to Guthook) between Deer Lick Shelters and Rocky Mountain Shelters.

Dunnam was last seen wearing a grey shirt, blue hiking pants, a green backpack, and was carrying trekking poles. It is unclear whether he has been attempting to thru-hike.

Hikers are asked to keep an eye out for Dunnam. Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts should contact the Pennsylvania State Police in Carlisle at 717-249-2121 or by contacting 911.
