Ponies on the Appalachian Trail!!

The Grayson Highlands in itself is a magical place and a beloved part of the Appalachian Trail hiking culture! The beauty of the landscape is one of the attractions, but the ponies—oh, the ponies are the Main Attraction! The day we went through this beautiful part of the trail was cold and windy!! The Wise Shelter was a true escape from the inclement weather and the ponies came to wish us well and walked through camp on more than one occasion. A true treat and a definite highlight of my hiking week. Whether you are hiking or want to spend time in nature, give this place a chance to show you the many wonderful hikes within the park and you may just get to see the ponies that make this state park a true gem.
