Quick on the Draw: mid Virginia

Catch up post

I am rarely stopping in town these days, and phone signal continues to be variable. So I have got behind with my posts. Here is a condensed catch up for the miles up to 865 when I took a family break from the trail. There is of course more detail if you click on the drawings.

During this period: I had my second fall (this time in a stream and more painful), a lot more wet and misty weather and intense thunderstorms, the appearance of more insect life (including my second tick) and the trees filling with the returning migratory birds with the spring.

And a few photos too:

looks like you are having a big adventure, Mike. Beautiful drawings too. Don’t fall into too many more streams and take care. I’ll follow the rest of your hike with interest.

I’ve just spent a wonderful hour or so catching up on all your posts, travelling by your side (but happy that the travelling is in my head, not in actuality… Man it sounds tough). Wow. Just wow. What an adventure, what incredible writing, art, photos. You are an amazing human being Mike – stay safe, enjoy, can’t wait to see you and all your paintings and drawings when you’re back home. Meanwhile, I’m thinking of you and sending love, my beloved friend!

Hey, great to hear from you! Hiking the AT is like nothing else I have done. A really wonderful experience in so many ways, and It is also very valuable solo time to spend time in my own head and process some of the things over recent years. The trail community is very special too and over Hundreds of miles you meet a lot of interesting people.
