Quick Update 5/31

I’m currently sitting at a hostel after passing mile 300 yesterday and within an easy two day range of Erwin, TN. The floor is gravel, the front yard looks like an abandoned trailer park and the frozen pizza is heavenly. They call this place Frog Pond and I’m in heaven.

The past few weeks have seen a change in me and our group in general. Everyone is really coming into their own on the trail and the feeling of acceptance hangs in the air like the mist of the Smokey’s. This doesn’t surprise me and in fact quite delights me, we have been out for a month after all. The hands are learning the muscle memory of cooking and setting up tents, the eyes see more and more white blazes and seldom question the validity of side trails. The mind is relaxing into the simplicity this life instills upon it. I am content, to put my serenity mildly.

From here it’s a couple hundred miles to Damascus, VA, our next major city and a main hiker hub. Time is flying and all too quickly, just like the books I’ve been reading and listening to.

Hopefully I can spend some time putting up my journals and thoughts on specific trail experiences later on but for now getting WiFi in this shack is about the best I can muster. Take care all and stay posted.

Till next time,
