Day 6 – A Zero Day
Remember our Food Strategy?
Our food shopping strategy worked pretty well at the Waynesboro Walmart. But it is not a quick trip to the store. It is a bit time consuming to locate the items, calculate total calories needed, the calories per meal, protein per meal, and calories per ounce of food weight. The end result is not a whole lot of food for more money than you would think! The effort pays off, though, in terms of keeping us well fed while not blowing up our pack weights.
It seems that some other hikers got to the Mountain House freeze-dried section before us. There wasn’t much left to work with, and considering their cost, we opted for more DIY meals.
Here is our food for four days – from mid-day Saturday, after a hotel breakfast, to mid-day Wednesday, when we plan to arrive in Boiling Springs.
