Rock Gap Magic – Fox’s AT Thru Hike – Day 10

Good day today from Carter Gap to Rock Gap shelter. The morning started out moody and then the skies cleared and the views were amazing!

Foggy oath with rhododendrons overarching on the Appalachian Trail

Kinda Sleepy Hollow

So many notables today

I crossed 100 miles! Funny thing, I always thought from pictures it was a bridge. Turns out it is a tower, after a ton of stairs and a hard climb. But it felt great to cross the milestone and I was rewarded with sunny skies.

SUN!

After Jerz and I arrived at Rock Gap, I started laying out things to dry. For some unknown reason, I put my stamps (for postcards) in a ziploc, but not my smokies permit. Fortunately it survived.

I was just starting go eat when Six pack hikers showed up. They told us Freshground was at Rock Gap so I finished my meal and we scooted down from the shelter. Freshground topped us off with grilled cheeses and salad.

Six Pack Hikers hooked me up with a sport cap for my smartwater bottle. I use a Sawyer Mini to save weight but you can’t attach the screw adapter for backflushing. The sport cap works better than the flush syringe that came with the filter. Literally perfect.

Works like a charm

Stuffed to the gills from Freshground, we turned in and snoozed.
