What a great day. The trail was smooth and fast. After rain again tiday and bugs…I found myself using both my bug suit and umbrella.
I made it to Cooper Brook Falls Lean-to in under 5 hours. At 11.5 miles…that’s moving! Actual time was 4.75 hours. Who would have imagined I could hike so fast.
My feet are doing better. Two pair of socks AND I loosened the laces. When I’d twisted my ankle I figured tighten then up…wrong answer. I was squeezing my feet to death and they let me know. Praise God for the relief.
Just so you know, I talk to myself while I hike. It was funny when I didn’t realize another hiker had come up behind me and I was loudly proclaiming THANK YOU JESUS! because I was just so glad my feet weren’t hurting…he probably thought I was a nut!
Then it was off to find my food drop. I followed the direction perfectly and had no issues. But when I lifted my pack to continue on, it was heavy. However, I’m glad to have my food…no more rationing. Or so I thought! I have plenty of dinners, but lunch is a little scares with beef jerky and chex mix.
However, the real fun began after getting to the shelter.
First, Lawrence (a recent college grad with a Chemical Engineering degree) and I met up again. He stated at Antlers Campsite last night. He hikes much faster than me, so he was here much earlier than me. He’s kind of like Speedy Gonzalez.
Then I saw that NoBigDeal and Racket were here too. They are the Roadtrek owners I met at the AT Lodge. They are hiking NoBo thru the 100 Mile Wilderness.
Here’s a shot of their RT Simplicity only 2 weeks old.
Then met the newlyweds, FreeGear and WringWayScout. They are section hiking the AT for their honeymoon. They plan to do a 3rd now, a 3rd on their 5th and 10 anniversary. Cool story. They are college teachers in Korea during their work life.
FINALLY, in strolls DaddyShortLegs & LittleFoot and Diesel the dog! This is a dad and his 5 year old daughter. They really brought energy to the lean-to. LittleFoot even brought hot dogs for the fire! They hiked in 4 miles and they’ll do about the same tomorrow. How cool…dad and daughter bonding time.
BTW It’s kind of funny, but FreeGear & WrongWayScout, Lawrence and I all have the REI Quarter Dome Tent.
Tomorrow I summit White Cap.
