The Journey Begins

Oh the places you’ll go!

Two friends (certified enablers) Mike, Hope and I drove straight thru from Longville,  MN to Amicalola Falls GA.  You could say we drove all night hands wet on the wheel.   We arrived before light and slept for a bit in the car.  They threatened to kick me out and keep driving but were kind enough to wait until it was light enough to take some pictures.  I said goodbye with a bit of a tear in my eye.

The emotions I was going through were all over the place.   Certainly excitement for the beginning.   Also a large measure of sadness for all I am leaving.

 The approach trail

Well all I can say is,  what a challenge!  The steps were hard but well worth it for the view of the falls.  All day long it would drizzle,  then turn to a short light rain.  As I approached Springer Mt it flat out poured.  One of my trail buddies gave me great advice,  “Embrace the suck!”  Made it to the top but it was raining so hard I couldn’t write in the book.  Made it to the campground and thankfully set up my tent in a light drizzle.

Day 2

Lesson 1 from the trail.   Listen to the trail,  it doesn’t care one hoot about your agenda.   The views are spectacular!  The blue of the mountains is made stark by the mist in the valleys.   The trail always stretches on before me.

Oh the people you will meet!
