The Woes of Winter

black bearFlashback a week ago to a sunny 70° day in tropical Florida and you’d think what could be better? The AT of course! Starting the trail in february has already taught me an unbelievable amount of skills to use in the remaining future of my NOBO thru hike attempt. From having a partner to be the mouse bait instead of you or watching your gloppy oatmeal breakfast turn into a third grade science experiment as it erupts from the tiny lid of your MSR windburner all over the shelter beckoning every bear to and fro Maine to it. Sure, my fresh off the shelf sleeping bag may have a couple new vents thanks to the mice but it’s nothing good ol’ duct tape and anger won’t fix, right? Don’t forget that your best defense against a mouse is a good offense so grab the nearest shelter broom and start sweeping till there’s nothing left but you and a feeling of accomplishment, that is until you realize mice come in pairs. So here’s a tall glass of water and mio to the trail and what other mysteries and pains it may hold for me tomorrow!
