Weeks Five and Six: Boiling Springs to Palmerton

Check out my newest video. It is a short nine minutes that covers weeks five and six of my AT flip-flop thru-hike, including lots of rain, broken trekking poles, and beautiful views.

We met briefly on the AT in southern PA. I was attempting to flip-flop, having started in early March only to be off the trail a week later with a hernia. I restarted in Harper’s Ferry May 1st and only got 2 weeks in before I left the field. Glad to see you are still going and hoping that the weather will improve for you and the other hikers. I, after much reflection, decided that I just didn’t have it in me to “embrace the suck” and got off the trail just south of Carlisle, PA. Realized that I didn’t like being wet all the time from either sweat or rain and that what was important to me was sharing time with my family.

Keep on plugging and I am impressed with all who do this for their physical and mental ability.

    Take care,

Bite Me! (Still love that trail name) Great to hear from you and hope you are doing well. Sounds like you made the right decision to get off the trail. As it turns out, I developed some knee problems not long after we met and had to end my hike prematurely as well. I do plan to do some rehab and start up again as soon as I am able. It was great meeting you and best of luck with everything! Double H
