Today is the day!

Today is the day I embark on one of the biggest adventures of my lifetime. I’m unbelievably excited and nervous, and I’m currently laughing at the fact that it’s 9 miles up a mountain to even get to the beginning of this trail. What have I gotten myself into?

I’d like to make this a selfish post and take the opportunity to thank a few of the people who have been so supportive of my crazy idea:

  • Thanks to Clyde for introducing me to Austin’s Barton Creek Greenbelt, without which I would never be as physically prepared as I am (not that anyone can ever be prepared enough).
  • Thanks to Adam, Lincoln, and Julia for going on many hikes with me.
  • Thanks to Chelsea for all her impeccable Appalachian Trail advice. (She’s an avid hiker too, and her next challenge is the PCT, so send some good vibes her way too!)
  • Thanks to Kate, Ann, Shelley, and Max for being wonderful housemates and putting up with my gear being strewn around everywhere.
  • Thanks to Ben, Leah, James, Alex, and the Masheks for contributing to my extensive accumulation of gear.
  • Thanks to Chad and David for being understanding bosses and allowing me to go on this journey with the comfort of job security.
  • Thanks to Zach for giving me the amazing opportunity to write for Appalachian Trials.
  • Thanks to all of my friends for being amazing, loving, and supportive people.
  • And finally, thanks to my family for their love, support, and gear-related contributions. Without you all, I would never have been the person I am today, and I would not have the ambition and nerve to go on this journey. I love you, Mama, PapaGray, and Grandma.

Time to get on the trail!

Have any last advice as I take my first NOBO 2016 steps? Let me know!

From the home support team… I would like to add one more thanks to David “AWOL” Miller for his fabulous work on the AT Guide. Indispensable for planning and a comfort to us following along in spirit – it is good to know some of the details of where she is along the way!!
