App Review: Trail Wallet

I find it funny that I had to borrow a picture of money… Because I have none.

I’m a rare breed. Budgets excite me.

I’ve done a fairly decent job managing money while in college. But with my AT start date looming in the not so distant future, I can’t help but get sweaty palms when I talk about my expenses for the trail.

What if I run out of money? How can I afford this?

I recently downloaded the Trail Wallet App– and it answered those questions!
I won’t be able to take my excel sheets with me, so this app is a spectacular substitute.
Also, how cool that it’s called Trail Wallet?!

You can set your trip start and end dates, your budget, and it gives you a break down of what you can spend daily.

With the plus button at the bottom, you can place your expenses under the categories: accommodation, food, transport, entertainment, bribes, and miscellaneous.

After you log your expenses it breaks it down into a graph, showing where your cash flow is going.

The app itself is pretty minimalist and easy to navigate. It took me awhile to learn how to get everything going though. It was designed for travel, but I even think it could be utilized for daily expenses as well.

I hope this helps other hikers prepare a budget for any trip, big or small!

After messing around with it the past few days, I have decided that I will definitely be using this app on the trail.

Do you know if there is anything similar for Android? I can’t seem to find it on my app store

I keep seeing these awesome stories about apps for the AT and was wondering how in the world does everyone recharge their phone on the trail – I see people using it for their music, their camera, for apps…is there a suggestion you have been given about how to keep your phone charged? Thanks!
