11.23.17 • Day 186! ? Happy (late, by the time this gets posted) Thanksgiving everyone! We could not be more grateful for each and every one of our incredibly amazing, supportive, and loving family and friends! In addition, we're thankful as heck for the ability to hike the Appalachian Trail, and for numerous, priceless hikers and trail angels that we've met all along the way. On this glorious Thanksgiving day, we aren't eating turkey and pumpkin pie for the first time in our lives. Instead, we hiked up and over Snowbird Mountain, we're entering Smoky Mountain National Park, and heading straight to one of our favorite places! Just a little over half a mile off of the trail is Mt Cammerer, a lookout tower that we have now enjoyed twice all to ourselves. We made it to the tower just in time for the beautiful, Thanksgiving sunset. After setting up for the night and eating dinner, we put all of our layers on to stand outside and stargaze. Looking up from that tower at almost 5,000 feet to see every single star in the sky was the perfect way to end our Thanksgiving Day.

Towards the end of the hike we started hiking up mountains that people usually ski down in the winter. Some great views can be seen at the tops of these mountains but getting there (honestly) takes a lot of work! Sometimes these mountains are steep (the reason people enjoy skiing them) and tall. Don’t be a pretender and ditch the trail for the flat ski trails going down the mountain. There are tons of people out there that found lazy ways around actually hiking. Don’t be those people. Some trails are graded pretty nice but most are hard to get up. Once you’re up there, there usually isn’t water until at least the other side of the mountain because the cabins and ski services are all shut off for the summer. Plan accordingly and maybe you can steal a badass solo campsite for the night! #twocookstakeawalk #appalachiantrail #atthruhike2017 #thetrek #trektheat #appalachiantrials #rei1440project #optoutside #appalachiantrailclassof2017 #wanderlust #notallwhowanderarelost #backpacking #adventuring #longdistancehiking #coupleswhohike #explorevermont #bromleymountain
