This Week’s Top Instagram Posts from the #AppalachianTrail

A new group of eager northbounders are seeing their first white blazes every passing day and they’ve been blessing our Instagram feeds with the good stuff, so welcome back to our weekly roundup of the most spectacularly beautiful, hilariously entertaining, and all-around best photos taken on the Appalachian Trail this past week.

This week features photos of an influx of sunsets, sunrises, and snow. Photos were taken from March 24 to April 5 and were found by perusing the hashtag #TrektheAT. A thorough point-based grading system is used to pluck out the very best for your viewing pleasure. As always, dog photos are favored.

AT Day 24: Standing Bear Farm to Max Patch – Miles: 13.6 for the day (255.1 / 2192.0) – Being done with the Smokies, we took a nero at Standing Bear (highly recommend), and set out early the next morning. I had checked the elevation map the night before, and had paid it no mind for some reason. It was rough. 5,000+ feet of elevation gain over this hike. My feet were in shambles, I ran out of water…and then, like a mirage, I ran across trail magic less than a mile from the summit. This trail never ceases to amaze. We hiked up to Max Patch and just stood there, slack jawed, unable to even find our trail family who were already setting up camp. Like 360 views? You will like it here. We were treated to an amazing sunset with some new trail friends, and I slept the hardest ever so far on this hike. Bad days can turn good, just gotta stay optimistic. • • • • • #appalachiantrail #at2019 #at #trektheat #georgiatomaine #thetrek #thruhike #thruhiking #hike #hiking #outdoors #optoutside #travel #adventure #backpacking#wanderlust #camping #campvibes #takeahike #atc #choosemountains #getoutside #ultralight #wondermore #travelstoke #sonyalpha

Up and out of Erwin…beautiful but cold snow and ice again. Ash Gap was a great place to sleep before up and over the iced over trail of Roan Mt. Sparkle (our ice skater) was so happy to spend the morning on ice!! Jimmy tracked us down on both sides of the mountain for some treats! Bradley Gap then some gorgeous views on the balds. We left North Carolina for the last time! Then we hit gorgeous Jones Falls as a reward for crossing the 400 mile mark….wow can’t believe it so proud of our family! Had to include a photo of horsepower doing her Joan of Arc history video presentation in her trail-made birchbark armor. www.awaking-dreams.com @redwood_empire_food_bank @soles4souls @scwildliferescue @appalachianwild @carma4horses @b_radfoundation @marmot @probar #awakingdreams #NoBadWeather #TrektheAT #AT2019 #appalachiantrail #getoutside

Day 14?210.8/2192, NC & TN ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀. Fell several times from the ice and snow today, but I’m loving all of it! Felt like a snail today (trying not to slip) and still felt great (besides actually slipping). Had some awesome coffee trail magic after I fell a few times too! Gonna keep pushing through the Smokies!!! I hear that there is beer once I’m out ???? swipe to the last pic to see the most unflattering pic of me on the trail… (4/2/2019) ?♥️ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ . . . . . . #TrekTheAT #TheTrek #AppalachianTrail #AT2019 #goatworthy #optoutside #rei #AdventureOn #granitegear #TheGroundsKeepers #ForceofNature #TrekkingToes #rei1440project #LeaveNoTrace #LNT #LeaveItBetter #greatsmokymountains #thesmokies #greatsmokymountainsnationalpark #smokymountains
