I came across this trail message in new jersey. it was not uncommon to see NOBO mile markers made out of sticks or stones or pinecones, and every once in awhile, there would be a word or two of encouragement or an indication of a landmark. like any hungry hiker, I hoped there were actually pretzels just beyond the arrow, but alas, it took me to an empty clearing. that meant it was probably a directional for a specific hiker, and many miles later, I did meet pretzel in new york. her friend had pitched a tent there. . . . . . . #appalachiantrail #atthruhiker #appalachiantrail2018 #thruhike #thruhiker #thruhiking #at2018 #at2018thruhike #atthruhike2018 #nobo #georgiatomaine #backpacking #trektheat #pretzel #? #trailmessages#
