Who Is Zeta?

Hey there Interweb world!

Me at the ATCI am Kathryn! But you will get to know me as Zeta, as it is my trail name! I am going to be thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail this 2016 season! I plan on going NOBO starting May 9th and will finish during the Beginning of August!

Last summer I was a LASH (long ass section hiker) and hiked over 700 miles within 2 months and couldn’t get enough, so I have decided to thru-hike this year! You may be thinking that 3 months is pretty ambitious and wondering why I would want to do it in such a short amount of time. Well, I am a full-time student and will be hiking between my junior and senior year of college!

Hump Mountain. Local's refer to it as 'The Roan Mountain Bald'

Hump Mountain. You can see it from the middle of town in Roan Mountain. Local’s refer to it as ‘The Roan Mountain Bald’

I am from a teeny tiny town that you may be familiar with if you know anything about the Appalachian Trail, Roan Mountain, Tennessee!! I lived there throughout my crazy high school years. I am currently a Junior a tiny liberal arts school. I am a double major in Human Services and Psychology! Cheers to the million dollar question, “What do I want to do with that?” I have no idea! hehe. One part of me wants to be a clinical social worker, another part wants to do recreational therapy, and the biggest part just wants my school loans to be magically paid off (funny I know!) and live in the woods for the rest of my life!

awkwardMy hobbies include but are not limited to: Photographing with my 35mm camera, procrastinating, drinking coffee, sometimes being crafty, having meaningful conversations, awkwardly singing, pretending I don’t watch Netflix, eating, making myself laugh, analyzing people and why they are the way they are (myself included), and thinking of at least one reason every day about why life is so weird.

I am basically a young women who is figuring her life out through living.

I have decided to thru-hike in-between my school years because why wait!? I am too antsy to sit back and wait for the “perfect” time. If that’s how life worked, nothing would ever get done! You never know what will pop up throughout life so I am just making the best of it. The older I get the more and more I realize how fast life actually does pass you by and it is a bit scary, and I’m not even that old!!

I have one life motto: “Life is Weird”

DragonflyI am so excited to share my thru-hike experience with you. I will share everything from my extremely happy moments to my utterly discouraging moments. I am here for you to experience this vicariously through my blog! Feel free to ask any questions you may have!

Good luck Zeta. I start my hike mid March because I’m sloooow. My daughter lives just down Routr 81 from you in Blountville. I hope to meet up with her in Damascus. My wife will be coming down from NY too. You should change your trail name to Road Runner at the speed you will be moving. Give a beep beep as you go by. Sir_lostalot..
