My name is Alan. I live in Perth, Western Australia. In May, aged 59, I will be hiking the West Highland Way in Scotland in seven days with my 18-year-old son Patrick. Last June I was able to run two half marathons, 3 weeks apart, each in just over 2 hours. And then in July I climbed Mt Moosilauke on a day hike on the Appalachian Trail. Whilst my diet is not exactly on point, I am hoping that a combination of trail running and regular gym sessions (fun fact, at 182 pounds my bench press max is still around 250 pounds) will get me through this hike and light a fire in terms of future, grander still adventures. I will be writing about physical preparation and how one might progressively build from one hike to a somewhat more ambitious one.
