Hey! My name is Hatie (she/her), and it has been my dream to hike the PCT since I was in middle school. I am hoping to fulfill that dream this summer as I take a gap semester after I graduate high school to attempt a SoBo hike. I have lived my whole life in Berkeley CA, and have been backpacking since I was 6 years old with my parents and siblings, all around the Bay and the Sierras and many areas around the country. Through my blog posts I aim to record my planning and my adventure, for my benefit and for those I know and don't know who may be interested. I also hope to promote a perspective by young people, especially women, that I have rarely seen in my research, to inspire them to take risks and follow their dreams.

What It Takes To Take A Break: Shelter Cove Resort –> Home
So, I got off trail. I'll take you through that decision and then making it home!
Days 40-43, miles 658.2-746.4: Big Lake Youth Camp –> Shelter Cove Resort
I am also very happy with my new backpack; I love the giant mesh pocket on the back, the water bottle pockets (no more stretched out ones where my bottles fall out multiple times a day!), and it's nice to not have to worry about it ripping open. Plus, the color is so much fun.
Days 35-39, miles 555.8-658.2: Timberline Lodge –> Big Lake Youth Camp
The wind and rain really made it hard for me the last days though, I just felt as if I could never escape it, it might just keep going on for ever and ever, and it really sucks to have these beautiful views just taken away from you when you know that they are just right there if only the fog cleared.
Days 33-34, miles 505.6-555.8: Cascade Locks –> Timberline Lodge
But it was really hard. The heat drained me more than I thought it could, I walked some of these miles slower than I ever have before, and I was really missing being in town and having access to those comfortable amenities and cell service.
Officially A Thru-Hiker: A PCT Washington Recap
I am completely in awe that I just walked through a whole state! I have been planning this for so long, researching, watching videos and reading blogs, that it almost doesn't seem real.
Days 28-32, miles 423.8-505.6: Trout Lake –> Cascade Locks
So happy to have made it through a whole state and I am so excited to continue on and see what’s next.
Days 24-27, miles 357.7-423.8: White Pass –> Trout Lake
This section was the shortest so far, but included some of the most amazing moments so far.
Days 19-23, miles 259.5-357.7: Snoqualmie Pass –> White Pass
The views continue to be amazing! Mt. Ranier and the surrounding peaks, clear lakes, golden sunrises and sunsets, tiny mushrooms, and bright flowers. It makes me so happy every morning to wake up and immediately see such stunning things, big and small!
Days 15-18, miles 188.5-259.5: Stevens Pass –> Snoqualmie Pass
I am sad now that my family is leaving, but am excited that I met back up with Emma and that we are planning to continue on together. The days are also now developing a rhythm and I am feeling myself get stronger and more able to push through the physical pains.
Days 8-14, miles 80.7-188.5: Stehekin –> Stevens Pass
This section was definitely more difficult in terms of the actual trail; elevation and all the blowdowns and overgrowth, at least more than the first section.
