Year 2 Day 10 – W8-05 Rainy Pass Terminus & Mazama
Like with any day's hike, I felt a desire to finish the hike. That was even stronger with this hike, as it represented the end of thousands of miles and months on trail. But that competed with a strong sense of nostalgia, thinking not only about the events of the last week, but also those from last year's months on the trail.
Year 2 Day 9 – T8-04 Stehekin to Six Mile Camp
Of course, I slipped and ended up sitting in the stream. I was perfectly okay, but the rocks in the stream dislodged both water bottles from the side pocket of my pack. I quickly grabbed one, but the second - with my water filter attached - floated out of reach before I could grab it.
Year 2 Day 8 – M8-03 Stehekin Zero
I played "Trail Angel from Wrightwood." After being inspired last year by Liz in Wrightwood, I had modifed the lyrics to John Prine's "Angel from Montgomery." But, in my mind, the sentiment doesn't just pertain to Liz. It reflects the kindness with which all trail angels treat dirty, smelly hikers like me.
Year 2 Day 7 – Su8-02 High Bridge/Stehekin
It was drizzly for a while this morning. Having learned my lesson from yesterday regarding wet plants, I kept my rain pants on the whole way.
Year 2 Day 6 – Sa8-01 Trail Work & S Fork Agnes Creek
I chose to make use of the traveling saw and spend a good amount of time cleaning up trail as I hiked along. In summary, it took me 7 hours to cover the first 4.5 miles today. I counted 70 distinct places where I worked on making the trail more hiker friendly.
