Hello! My government name is Lakelyn (she/hers/ella). My trail name is Sweet Pea. I'm here thru hiking the Appalachian Trail in 2026. I'm an amateur hiker, plant-based eater (vegan), believer in God, reader, writer, and avid question asker. Although I've spent a lot of time behind a desk (#academia), I enjoy traveling and crossing things off my yearly bucket lists - aka I'm always up for an adventure! I’m taking a holistic approach to writing this blog which means I’m focusing on the mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of it all. I want to give you, Dear Reader, the raw and real of thru-hiking the AT. And so we adventure on….

Thank You and Farewell
There is a deep ocean of thanks I need to give to everyone who became a part of my 2026 AT thru hike. The words I offer in this blog are a small expression of the immense gratitude I feel. I also want to offer a final farewell as I wrap up blogging for this season. Thank you for reading!
The Transition to Post-Thru Hike Life
It's been two weeks since I finished my AT thru hike. It still feels unreal, especially now that I am back to off-trail life. Over the past two weeks, I've been grappling with my own worries and strategies for handling the post-thru hike transition. This blog is about my experience over the last two weeks since I finished the AT.
Maine, Katahdin, and Beyond
After 2,197.9 miles across 14 states, I finally made it to Baxter Peak on the top of Mt. Katahdin. It’s the conclusion of a dream 12 years in the making. This post isn’t the final one but starts to wrap up this grand adventure.
My Journey through the White Mountains
Since starting my AT thru hiker, the White Mountains were always daunting to me. I was nervous about if I could complete them at all. I’m on the other side of them now and want to share my experience of the Whites. Spoiler alert: I enjoyed them!
My Throwback to Vermont on the LT/AT
I completed a section of the Vermont Long Trail that overlaps with the Appalachian Trail back in October 2025. Coming back to this section now as part of my AT thru-hike was rewarding in a lot of ways. From the familiar to unexpected, this post is a throwback comparison to my October practice hike.
Pitfalls and Lessons Learned from Pennsylvania to New York
They say comparison is the thief of joy. That’s no less true for thru-hikers. I find myself constantly falling into the pitfall of comparing myself to other hikers. The good news? I’ve learned a lot about myself and what I need to do moving forward.
The Hidden Gem of the AT: Virginia
Spoiler alert: Virginia has been my favorite section of the AT up until now. It’s been an amazing mix of diverse experiences and milestones that I wasn’t quite expecting. It may have been long but it was all worth it.
Over 900 Miles and I Finally Got a Trail Name
Trail names are a big deal for hikers and it’s part of the thru-hiking culture. For the first 900 miles or so, I didn’t have one. It didn’t bother me much but I finally got one. This post is the story of how it all happened.
My First Bear Encounter on the AT
What do you get when you combine bears and food? A rather sleepless night! I didn’t necessarily expect to see a bear while thru-hiking but, alas, it happened. Let me tell you about my first bear encounter on the AT.
Keeping Faith While Thru Hiking the AT
Faith is important to me and is one of my main “reasons why” for thru-hiking at AT. Here, I talk about the spiritual side of my journey and how I’ve experienced God out here.
